Research from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization shows that about one third of food produced in the world for human consumption every year is wasted or lost. Reasons include that supply chains are not flexible and efficient enough to distribute the food the right way.
In blockchain technology, there might be a modern day solution as it can optimize those supply chains and help salvage lower quality food that is still perfectly edible. It would also become easier to track shipments and make efficient decisions, and the modern, socially conscious consumer would see where their food is coming from.
