BMW-North America, in partnership with the National Park Foundation, National Park Service and the Department of Energy is planning to set up around 100 electric vehicle charging stations in and around the national parks and surrounding communities in the United States of America. In order to identify the future installation sites, the joint public-private partnership will take into consideration a number of factors including proximity and strength of EV markets, distance from nearby charging locations, and natural and cultural landscape considerations. Thomas Edison National Historic Park in New Jersey became the first operational charging station among the proposed hundred. The cost of charging at the Thomas Edison National Park station will be borne by the BMW for the first six months.
