Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), together with the ClimateWorks Foundation, has created and published the China Renewable Curtailment and Coal Stranded Assets Risk Map. BNEF says its goal is to “to cast light on the issues central regulators will have to weigh up as they steer the power system through fundamental restructuring.”

According to the report, China faces social costs of $237 billion because of risky coal investments, and that no additional coal capacity is needed anywhere in the country.
