Will vehicles soon communicate with traffic infrastructure on a wide scale? Image source: Shutterstock (#345667553)
Cadillac’s CTS has recently successfully demonstrated the Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) capability in Michigan. Being one of the first production vehicle to contain Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication, the V2I capability was demonstrated in collaboration with Michigan road agencies. The V2I allows the vehicle to alert the driver of safety, mobility and environment-related conditions ahead. Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) protocols were used which helps the drivers to know about the status of the upcoming traffic signal and can help them avoid dangerous decisions such as to brake abruptly or accelerate through a busy intersection.
