Crowdsourced bus services are a new phenomenon in the UK where customers suggest trips they would like to take on an app or platform and the company prepares schedules accordingly. Thereby gaps in the public transport system are reduced and the service is better tailored to satisfy customers’ needs. While ICT applications in the mobility sector have so far largely focused on cities, it seems like they could also provide solutions for intercity travel. Experts are however sceptical whether these solutions will also reduce traffic congestion.
