Verizon Wireless has launched a nationwide LTE network for the internet of things. Through the Category M1 LTE network, IoT data plans will be sold for about $2 per month per device. Uplink speed, downlink speed and bandwidth are capped to enable inexpensive connectivity chipsets. Devices using Verizon’s ThingSpace software will connect to the network without problems. With the Category M1 LTE network intact, developers are now in the process of building devices to work with it.
Partners are, for instance, providers of various household meters as well as consumer electronics makers. AT&T will launch the technology during the next three months.
