Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago announced earlier this week that his city is committed to power all government buildings with only renewable energy by 2025. If Chicago succeeds, this would make them the largest US city to do so. Purchases of utility-supplied and onsite-generated energy will begin in 2018 and 2019 to initiate the project. Chicago wants to send a clear message that it remains determined to create a 21st-century economy future generations can benefit from.
The city had just been awarded a 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award by the US Environmental Protection Agency for the city’s contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
