China to implement program for e-waste

The United Nations University released a report on E-waste, showing that the world has produced 41.8 million tonnes of electronic waste. Electronic waste poses special problems of recycling because it contain hazardous materials. The report also showed another shocking truth, that China is responsible for over 14.3 per cent of global electronic waste. Therefore, the Chinese State council has released a plan to tackle the issue of e-waste by introducing an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, which urges the Chinese governmental bodies to come up with a strategy to recycle e-waste more efficiently. The EPR system proposes that the manufacturers take more responsiblity in establishing a sustainable guideline for key product types. To achieve this, the EPR proposes a guideline for producing environmentally-friendly designs, as well as using recycled materials, e.g.
