With the effort from the local community resulting in the government funding, the City of Loja, Ecuador has recently inducted 30 BYD e5 all-electric taxis. “This demonstrates that the people of Loja are not afraid to try new things. Cities like ours will pave the way for others to follow,” Mayor Bolivar Castillo said. Ecuador generates 43.6% of its electricity from renewable resources and this step shows the country’s commitment towards environmental changes. According to Jorge Burbano, BYD Business Manager of BYD E-Motors Ecuador, “The strong support from the government and the development bank Corporación Financiera Nacional shows united effort to create a sustainable living environment. We are impressed by their conviction and perseverance to make EcoTaxis a reality.”
