The Dutch government announced a plan to increase its forests by 25 percent over the next thirty years. This equals an area of 100,000 hectares or 386 square miles. This is quite a challenge for Europe’s most densly populated country. With the expansion of area covered with forest, the government aims to support local timber production and increase leisure sites. Overall the reforestation should reduce the country’s carbon footprint.
