Taking active action on the road to promote passive houses and net zero standard, Cornell Universiy, New York, has constructed the first energy efficient, affordable, comfortable and ecological high-rise residential building within the frame of a cooperation between public and private sector. Environmental systems, site, and local climate conditions were incorporated in the design, and therefore the dormitory requires no active heating. With buildings being the cause of 40 percent of the carbon emissions in the world, Cornell University is proud to reduce theirs by the equivalent of planting 5,300 trees a year.
