Deforestation undermines Australia’s climate efforts

According to new data released by the Government of Queensland, increasing rates of tree clearing in the state are wiping out any cuts to greenhouse gas emissions in the country. The problem lies within accounting: the federal government’s national greenhouse gas inventory, which takes care of Australia’s climate change accounting, claims that changes in land use, including land clearing, to reduce carbon rather than emitting it.
