A team at Sandia National Laboratories has found a way to detect viruses a lot faster than it was previously possible with the help of smartphones. A battery-operated device works with a smartphone app to diagnose patients in half an hour. Additionally, this method is a lot more mobile and cheaper than the bulky appliances used right now. With speed being a major factor in preventing the spread of viruses such as Zika or dengue, developing countries in particular will be benefitting immensely from the method.
