China’s Didi Chuxing, competitor to Uber, opened their new research facility in the United States to work on AI and self-driving vehicles. To ensure a strong start in Silicon Valley, Didi Chuxing has teamed up with Udacity to organize a contest to develop an Automated Safety and Awareness Processing Stack (ASAPS) to solve safety issues on the road. This serves their plan to pick up talent outside of China, for which they already made headway by signing former Uber researcher Charlie Miller.
