A change of the company name is supposed to mark the new age of renewable energy for Danmark’s biggest energy company. Image source: Shutterstock (#562837270).

Denmark’s biggest energy company, DONG Energy, is on its way to exclusively produce sustainable and non-polluting energy. All of its power plants are going to phase out coal by 2023, and instead run on biomass. To reflect their journey away from fossil fuels, the company is recently changed their name to Ørsted (after the the discoverer of electromagnetism, Danish physicist and chemist Charles Hans Ørsted).

“With our profound strategic transformation and the divestment of our upstream oil and gas business, this is no longer who we are. Therefore, now is the right time to change our name,” Thomas Thune Andersen, chairman of the board of directors said.

Results seem to be on the side of the company as it became the world’s largest offshore wind company this year.
