Ohio-based company Workhorse has developed a human-sized drone that can carry one or two people. The SureFly octothopter can handle up to 400 pounds, is driven bei eight separate propellers, and operates with a hybrid system combining gas combustion engine and parallel battery pack.
“The SureFly reinvents the helicopter,” Mike Dektas, a media spokesperson for Workhorse, says. “Pilots like that the SureFly is flown using a joystick, much the same as flying a drone — simple and easy to pilot.”
For the future, an autonomous version is not out of the question. The SureFly will make its maiden voyage in the framework of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next year.
