The Proterra Catalyst E2 Max electric bus has recently broken the world record for traveling the longest distance on a single battery charge. Driving 1,100 miles in circles on a test track for 60 hours, the bus performed well above what is needed for most routes.
While electric buses like the Catalyst E2 are more expensive than diesel buses up front, cost savings in the long run make them competitive. One analysis from Columbia University even estimated that New York City could save $1.4 million per bus with a switch from diesel to electric.
This might become an attractive option for cities to save money and at the same time cut pollution.
