The Transport for London will spend £18 million to  upgrade London’s power grids to charge the first generation of battery-powered black cabs. As per TfL’s new law, all the new black cabs will have to be battery-powered electric models in an effort to reduce toxic pollution from diesel engines. Around 300 rapid electric-car charging stations will be installed citywide by the year 2020. Primarily aimed at Black Cabs,t he stations will also be open to the increasing number of owners of Tesla, Nissan and electric BMWs in London. According to Ben Plowden, TfL’s director of surface strategy and planning, “An extensive, rapid charging network is fundamental in helping drivers make the shift from fossil fuels to electric.”
