An Israeli startup Intuition Robotics has developed an elderly friendly robot, ElliQ. The two-piece companion robot consists of one part tablet computer, and one part little robot which resembles a desk lamp. This robot can play music, call friends and family, remind about the medication timings along with tracking the health and house status, and can generate alerts in case of emergencies. Dor Skuler, co-founder of Intuition Robotics said,“We all wanted to do a project with a high social impact, and we all have aging parents – it just came together. The issue of loneliness among the older adult population and bettering their quality of life isn’t addressed much in the startup scene. That’s what drove us to research and develop the idea that eventually led to ElliQ.” The robot also provides an experience of interaction with its human-like traits.
