Efforts by the automobile industry and governments to replace diesel and petrol vehicles with electric ones is accelerating lately. Their environmental benefit is highly stressed: lower air pollution and independence of fossil fuels. On the other side there is also an environmental hazard connected to EVs, which is often overlooked: what happens with their lithium-ion batteries when they wear out? New recycling solutions for batteries are necessary to cope with the growing demand of electric vehicles.
