The European Commission is taking a next step to strengthen innovation in Europe’s regions by fostering smart specialization. As globalisation benefits are often widely spread, but the costs are often borne unevenly, the Commssion demands to take up the challenge of economic modernisation. By proposing two new pilot actions the, EU Commission seeks to help Europe’s regions invest in their niche areas of competitive strength (“smart specialisation”) and generate the innovation, resilience and growth needed.
