Evaporating water could power 70 percent of US

According to researchers at Columbia University, it is possible to generate enough energy to power 70 percent of the United States by using evaporating water from U.S. lakes and reservoirs. As the amount of energy produced compared to the required surface is similar to other sustainable energy concepts, evaporating water might have the advantage as it is less intermittent.

The team also already developed technology to make their idea happen, a muscle-like material dubbed HYDRA (short for hygroscopy-driven artificial muscles).
