A new study conducted by the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) finds that electric vehicles are about to undercut petrol internal combustion engine vehicles on a total cost of ownership basis by the 2020 onwards. The study examined the total cost of ownership over a four year period for different verhicle types such as petrol and diesel, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, pure electric and fuel cell cars. By 2024 the average four year cost of owning and running an EV should undercut comparable costs of petrol cars.
