The UN food agency FAO is joing forces with Unilever to help developing countries tackle food loss, waste and climate change, in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. The aim of the partnership is to “be able to positively impact the lives of family farmers and consumers and advance towards more sustainable production and consumption”, says FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva. In line with the SDG’s, FAO and Unilever pursue five strategic points of intervention, including digital innovation, land governance and resilience building for smallholder farmers as well as climate change and food loss and waste.
Unilever has committed to halving food waste by 2025 and has therefore agreed on jointly launching initiatives to reduce food loss and waste through awareness-raising campaigns, involving governments, civil society and the private sector.
