UK’s environment minister Thérèse Coffey was on board for the maiden voyage of the Poly-Mer, a boat made from 99 per cent recycled plastic waste. The project led by sustainability charity Hubbub has built the boat with a composite hybrid material known as ‘Plaswood’ which combines wood with 100 per cent recycled, single-use plastic.
The first trip of the Poly-Mer helped raise awareness about the damaging effect of marine plastic pollution, collecting plastic waste in the process.
