German startup Lilium Aviation demonstrated the world’s first electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) jet for the first time. During the test flight, the prototype took off vertically and switched between hover mode and forward flight mode, with takeoff controlled by a computer, and a pilot taking over afterwards.
The jet has a range of roughly 185 miles and reaches speeds of about 185 miles per hour. It was designed as an energy-efficient and clean mode of transportation in everyday life, and Lilium Aviation is now working on bigger versions that can carry more than two people.
