First ‘forest city’ build in China

China is quite ambitious when it comes to implementing new urban mega-projects. ‘Liuzhou Forest City’, a new city project will attempt at cutting the production of toxic gases with no less than one million plants on almost every surface imagineable. Designed by Stefano Boeri, already known for his environmentally focused urban designs, the new city will inhabit 30,000 people and attempts to absorb 10,000 tons of CO2 per year. This abundance of plants will be a great improvement to air quality and air pollution, but also enhances quality of life and the biodiversity of plants and animals in the area. Plans also intend on making the city self-sustainable with regards to power, thanks to geothermal and solar energy resources. Liuzhou Forest City will be connected to the existing Liuzhou city by rapid trains and electric cars.

This city is an important signal to the global community to show how important it is to rethink urbanism in terms of environmental friendliness and how sustainable cities could help cut down air pollution.
