Sportgiant Nike announced the production of low carbon leather material, which has an 80 per cent lower carbon footprint than conventional leather. The ‘Flyleather’ material is made of 50 per cent recycled leather and also uses 90 per cent less water in production. Nike’s chief sustainability officer said that Flyleather’ was therefore one of the firm’s biggest ever sustainability innovations. Nike’s ingeneers have found a way to use scrap leather from tannery floors and merge them with synthetic materials, the process is aimed at reducing the 30 per cent of cow’s hide.businessGreen
