With an industry experience as old as the automobile itself, Daimler, Ford, G.M and Renaut-Nissan lead the way in the autonomous car race, as reported by Navigant Research. The report reveals that deployment and partnerships forms the key basis for the automakers success. The partnerships of the automaker with the companies such as Argo AI, Chariot, Lyft; Cruise Automation etc. have played a pivotal role in increasing the automakers’ capability to an extent that they have now successfully developed advanced driver assistance systems for commercial use along with a detailed future plan. Companies such as BMW, Volvo Cars, VW Group, Hyundai Motor Group, Tesla, PSA and Toyota Motor are not far behind in the race, but they do lack significant industry specific partnerships which play a key role in the self-driving assistance systems. While Waymo, ZF and Delphi are in the second wave of contenders, automakers such as Honda, NuTomy and Baidu complete the tail end thanks to the lack of testing and deployment startegy.
