Smart cars will not be sold anymore in the United States and Canada when the 2017 model with a gasoline engine ends in autumn this year. Daimler will only focus on electric vehicles in the two markets so only battery-powered Smart Fortwo and Fortwo convertivle models will be sold. According to Dietmar Exler, the head of Mercedes-Benz USA, this step is logical consequence to support a sustainable future without any emissions. Yet, this strategic change does only apply to the North American markets.
