The German Bundestag approved the use of self-driving cars. As the German system relies on bicameral parliament, the Bundesrat still has to give their approval to the draft law. The coalition between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Christian Democratic Union (CSU) is confident that the bill will go through, although there are critical voices as well.
Should the bill be passed, drivers will be held responsible for their autonomous vehicles. They will have to be able to take over control at any time, and vehicles will have to have a kind of black box to help determine the reasons behind potential accidents.
