Green building certifications boost sustainability globally

To assess the sustainability of buildings, governmental bodies all over the world have implemented rating systems for the sustainability of buildings. As the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) estimates we have to achieve net zero carbon by 2050, these certification systems help us get there faster.

In the US, LEED-certified buildings use 25 percent less energy and 11 percent less water, the BREEAM tool employed in the UK is helping reduce CO2 emissions by 22 per cent, and the Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM) Plus scheme, certified by the Hong Kong Green Building Council, has offset 300,000 tons of carbon emissions each year for seven years now.
