The United Nations Foundation and the GSMA have entered a partnership which they announced at the Mobile World Congress. The partnership leverages their shared goal to gather, gain and use data that supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A better use of the data generated from digital technology can accelerate work towards the SDGs because they can save more lives, empower more women and create a more inclusive digital society, according to Kathy Calvin, the President and CEO of the UN Foundation. GSMA represents the mobile industry which was the first sector ever to commit as a whole to the achievement of the SDGs. Last year in September, the association published its “Mobile Industry Impact Report: Sustainable Development Goals” which assesses the industry’s current impact in achieving the SDGs. Now the association is focused on accelerating and amplifying that impact.
