A fired gunshot is hard to locate for the police. ShotSpotter aims to facilitate this tracking process with the help of technology. More precisely, Sound detection is to be integrated into streetlights. In order to realize this project in cities worldwide, ShotSpotter is cooperation with Current by GE. The technology can capture gunshots within 10 feets and can tell how many shooters are involved, which is a valuable information for the police upon arrival. The project is part of the IoT platforms for urban areas by Current that provides a number of other services too. The technology is already applied in a number of cities and is enhancing gunshot recording and living conditions significantly. Another application of ShotSpotter can be found in Kruger Park, South Africa, where the technology helps to reduce poaching.
