Mayors demand autonomous power and direct access to funds and financial institutions for cities. The demand for reform was launched on the first day of the U.N. Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador on Monday. An urgent reform of financing and funding low-carbon and climate change projects is needed. Mayors do know better when it comes to urban growth and sustainable urban development. Moreover development banks must respond directly to the needs of city authorities as the mayors said.
