Green and healthy traveling with bicycles is experiencing a renaissance in China. With more than 16 million shared bikes in more than 150 cities, provided by companies such as Mobike and ofo, fundamental infrastructure changes have to be made to create a safe, convenient and enjoyable cycling experience.

Right now, traffic safety, bike lane design and network coverage are all problem areas. Often, other vehicles block the bike lane and force cyclists to use the traffic lane or even sidewalks. To change that, Chinese officials now have and want to formulate proper regulations and enforcement. First measures could be a reduced speed limit for vehicles in spaces were cyclists are plentiful, narrowing intersections and the installation of protection for bicycle lanes.
