While glassy buildings are modern, provide daylight and often nice views, they pose a severe risk to birds. It has been estimated by a US organization that 750 million birds die every year from flying into glass-covered buildings as they cannot differentiate them from open space. Architects and environmentalists are cooperating to find out how glass treatment, structure of the glassy walls and lighting conditions can be improved to avoid collisions.
