Ionic Materials, a startup founded by Mike Zimmerman, is one of them and is developing such safer batteries. To be more precise, his R&D work focuses on “solid” lithium polymer batteries that can be packaged in a smaller and more flexible way and that require fewer sophisticated safety mechanisms.
