Shipping is a major driver of economic development and prosperity around the world. Without shipping, there is way less trade. Even if the sector has a rather low impact on the environment seen in proportion to other modes of transportation, there are still great potentials to reduce its negative environmental impact. Examples of greener shipping can be found all around the world: ferries in Québec running on natural gas, wind propulsion systems tested in Finland or charging docked ships over the electric grid.
