The Icelandic National Energy Authority has approved a license for North Tech Energy to locate and study geothermal energy on the seabed surrounding Iceland. Potentially one of the biggest energy projects to ever come to Iceland, the goal is to find out whether underwater geothermal areas can be utilized for energy production. North Tech Energy, if successful in the first stage of searching for suitable areas, is also allowed to harvest the energy for electricity generation. The operation starts June 2018.
