Mo Ehsani, professor emeritus at the University of Arizona, founder of QuakeWrap, a construction company specializing in FRP commodities, has been testing fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) products, and now believes to have found a way to save coral reefs.

Using a pipe system to pump cool water directly to coral colonies at risk with a lightweight FRP pipe might be able to reverse the trend of coral bleaching, which is when corals expel their symbiotic algae due to climate stress. The material is also more cost effective and much easier to construct and install than concrete or steel.

In theory, this system would then be powered by renewable, clean energy created on site by floating wave energy converters.
