Last year Kansas City, Missouri, announced it would invest 15 million USD in a public-private partnership with Cisco to make a two-mile streetcar corridor IoT smart. A free public Wi-Fi across 50 downtown blocks and 125 smart responding LED streetlights have been added. Along the streetcar corridor there are dozen kiosks where people without cell phones can learn about e.g. transportation options, accessing city services and local entertainment. They could be used as a reverse alert in emergencies as well.
