The future could see large retailers such as Walmart and Costco become some of the largest charging centers for electric vehicles. Multiple retailers have already started building a charging infrastructure. Additionally, those retailers account for about 14.5 percent of motor fuels purchased in the United States, doubling sales volumes of traditional retailers.
Kroger and Costco were even the most preferred gas stations in the country in 2014. There is a multitude of reasons this is going to work with charging stations as well. Frequency of store visits, large parking lots, locations close to residential areas, possible membership and customer incentives, there is a lot that speaks for large retailers playing an important role in the future of EV charging.
