New York has approved to establish the nation’s largest offshore wind farm. The new South Fork Wind Farm will generate 90 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity from 15 turbines. That is enough energy to power more than 50,000 homes. The offshore farm project is the second one after the 30 MW and five turbine Block Island Wind Farm. the operation began off the Rhode Island coast six weeks ago.
