According to a new U.N. Development Programme report, limiting the global temperature rise to 1,5C, compared to the pre-industrial era, avoids economic losses by 2050 of 12 trillion USD which is around 10 percent of the world’s GDP. This requires cutting the carbon emissions to zero by 2050 and a rapid transition to 100 percent renewable energy. The transition in return would create 68 percent more energy-related jobs in 2030. Moreover, 1,1 billion people without proper access to electricity would gain huge development benefits.
