The City of London Corporation in cooperation with Network Rail, coffee chains and employers are establishing coffee cup recycling facilities in offices, shops and streets. It is part of the so called “Square Mile” challenge that aims at recycling half a million cups in April this year. It is the first area in the UK undertaking such a recycling commitment. 30 businesses with more than 500 employees have already signed up to the Square Mile challenge. They will receive a free membership to collection services for one year. All other businesses involved can access discounted rates for collections. The collected cups can be recycled and used for a lot other items such as pencils or park benches that will be donated to local community projects and schools.
