Mayor of London announces new green Transport Strategy

As high temperatures and winds from the south trigger an air quality alert in London, Mayor Sadiq Khan announces a new draft Transport Strategy to expand the green bus network and introduce a Toxicity-charge for the most polluting vehicles.

For the goal to increase the proportion of people walking, cycling and taking public transport to 80 per cent of all journeys by 2041, a low-emission taxi fleet is to be delivered and measures are taken to deter car ownership. “We have to make not using your car the affordable, safest and most convenient option for Londoners going about their daily lives,” Mayor Sadiq Khan said.

The Transport Strategy also comes with the new goal of making London’s transport network emission free by 2050.
