As the example of New York City shows trees in cities can not only be ecological but also economically valuable. Trees can cool down the temperature in cities up to 8 degrees so energy use can be reduced by 20-50 percent. Trees do also filter air pollution and improve the air quality which in turn improves the citiy’s quality. Having them around even increases property value. All in all trees in cities do save a lot of money, even compared to the money spent for their care.
