By means of off-grid solar energy technology, the government of Myanmar plans to provide access to electricity to the entire population by 2030. Figures of 2014 show that only 16 percent of the population in rural areas have access to electricity which is a vital precondition for the development of a country. Solar energy installations in Myanmar have already shown improvements for healthcare, agriculture, and living conditions in general. Due to the high level of poverty of the rural population and difficulties in financial planning for companies, it is expected that the expansion of off-grid solar energy systems will largely rely on public funding.
