Will other Native American territories follow the example of the Navajo Nation and set up renewable energy projects? Image source: Shutterstock (#136622258).
According to recent reports, the Navajo Nation’s first utility-scale solar energy project, the Kayenta Solar Facility near Monument Valley, is now generating enough electricity for 13,000 homes in the area.
“Walter Haase, general manager of the tribal utility, said the plant proves to investors, developers and tribal communities that renewable energy projects are possible on the reservation,” Arizona Central provides.
With the project working out, the coal-fired power plant’s site in the area could be used for renewable energy development after the plant closes.
